A Look At The Big Retailers On Their Big Days In Australia

Almost every big retailer in Australia is pulling up their socks as they prepare for the upcoming shopping season to provide special offers to their customers. With the events like “Black Friday”, retailers have been trying to kickstart the shopping season one month before Christmas.

Even the World’s biggest internet retailer Amazon has announced its big plans for this Christmas. Amazon Australia’s Country Manager, Mr. Rocco Braeuniger recently made an announcement regarding Black Friday sales event on Amazon.com.au. which offered numerous products at discounted prices. In December 2017, Amazon’s Australian website - amazon.com.au. was launched in Australia and this is the first time that Amazon has got the chance to conduct Black Friday sales in Australia through amazon.com.au. Black Friday sales started on 23 November 2018 and ended on 26 November 2018.

It is looking very obvious that Amazon doesn’t want to miss this opportunity to gain Aussie’s Attention. Besides announcing their big plans for Black Friday, Amazon also allowed their Australian Customers to shop from Amazon.com. Earlier Amazon had blocked their Australian Customers to use Amazon.com due to the new GST Regime in Australia. Now after working out a way to add GST to online orders from overseas, Amazon is all ready to boost their sales by providing the wide range of products to Australians.

The world’s largest furniture Retailer Ikea was also in the news recently when it made an announcement regarding the expansion of its online retailing operations, further it is also planning to cut 7.5k Jobs worldwide and focus more on its E-Commerce Platform. As per Ikea Australia country manager Mr. Jan Gardberg, Ikea is planning to take their products closer to the customers through online retailing rather than forcing the customers to go out and shop. Ikea understands that the customer behavior is changing, and they are no longer visiting the stores as they used to in earlier days, hence Ikea is focusing on its online operations to gain more strength in the market. Ikea launched its online website in Australia in the year 2016 and it has also opened several distribution centers in Australia where consumers can go and pick up their online orders. Ever since its online launch in Australia, Ikea has continuously increased its product range and now it is having even bulky products like beds and sofas on its website.

Like Amazon, IKEA also celebrated Black Friday by slashing the prices of many items to make them look attractive to customers. On IKEA stores and website, there are several items whose prices were slashed by up to 50 percent.  As per recent market news, Ikea’s deals on Furniture, Sofa, and Fridges are creating a lot of buzz among the customers.

Amidst this scenario, it seems that domestic players have a neck-to-neck competition and need to come up with strategies for managing their sales.
