The benchmark S&P/ASX 50 (XFL) is Australia’s highly prominent large-cap equity index. It represents the top 50 largest stocks by float-adjusted market capitalisation, listed and trading on the exchange. The market cap cut-off usually is approximately AU$5 billion. Stocks listed on this index are regarded to be one of the most liquid ones available on the ASX with an emphasis on investability. The companies in this index demonstrate the largest national and multi-national publicly listed companies in the Australian equity market. The index offers good diversification relative to other indices. As of April 2021, stocks pertaining to all 11 GICS (Global Industry Classification Standard) Sectors are available on the index. The financial and material sector owns almost half of the S&P/ASX 50, followed by healthcare and real estate sector. The constituents of the index are subject to change, depending on the quarterly rebalancing by the index operator (S&P).
