ALL ORDINARIES
Share Price & News

The All Ordinaries index (XAO) represents the 500 largest companies in the Australian equities market. It was launched on December 31, 1979 and is the oldest index of shares in Australia. The index’s constituents are selected by a committee from Standard & Poor’s (S&P) and the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX). Notably, the All Ordinaries index can be considered as a benchmark for the entire Australian share market. It’s the constituents account for over three quarters of the Australian share market. Liquidity is not considered as criteria for inclusion to this index, except for foreign domiciled companies. Investors regularly use the All Ordinaries as it contains all sized companies except micro-caps and was Australia’s primary index for more than 20 years until its retirement in 2000.
