Pepin Island, marked with pristine locales and immaculate beauty, has been sold to a New Zealand buyer for an estimated amount of near $13.5 million.

The private island, which was earlier under foreign hands and is located at the north of Nelson in Tasman Bay, has returned to the Kiwi ownership after 26 years. In late 2018, the island was put on sale for $16 million; however, its price scaled down to around $13.5 million in March 2021.
The buyer’s identity and the final sale price has not been revealed.

The island holds biodiversity values
Its previous owner was the US-based Olivia Cayetana Hallman, who had inherited the island from her mother; the latter had bought it in 1995 for $2 million.
Both the owner and the farm manager were applauded for preserving the natural beauty of the island, including numerous ecological works being done and the pest eradication.
The new buyer too wishes to keep up with the farming activity, providing tourist accommodation along with ensuring public access to the island.
Further, the purchaser is also considering the prospects of boosting the environmental areas of strategic importance over the island.
Of late, the island's track was open to the public for a day as a local fundraiser to mark Queen Elizabeth's birthday.
Perfect tiny getaway for vacationers
Surrounded by emerald waters, the 518-hectare island boasts of magnificent scenic beauty adorned with secluded beaches and coves. It also has a working sheep farm, 3 eco-chalets and a farmhouse.
Its inhabitants include 1,800 sheep and 100 cows as compared to just 12 humans who reside there.
Visitors can go in for sightseeing walks or undertake a guided farm tour of the island. One can also enjoy the hut stay, which is equipped with all the modern amenities and a self-catering kitchenette.
