The industry that went under

The entire world’s travel and tourism industry took a tumble due to COVID-19 last year. While the lockdowns and restrictions in terms of border closures were able to stop the further prevention of the virus, it had serious repercussions in terms of trade, economy, and in general, by not letting people visit their friends and families.

Now that the world is slowly learning to live with the pandemic and having brought down the intensity of the same to a certain extent, also with the vaccine roll-out on in full swing in most parts of the world, its time to start removing world travel barriers.

Direct travel at the cost of a fortune?

If reports are to be believed, one could have to pay as much as $2,000-$2,500 for a two-way ticket to LA from Christchurch, which is thrice of what one would have had to pay for the same the previous year. Whether the prices have been increased manifold due to the additional risk and precautions involved, or as a mode to help the recovery of the industry, remains unknown.

NZ and Australia’s success

The Trans-Tasman travel Bubble has been a success so far, with daily flights flying across the route since the 19th of April 2021. New Zealand and Australia’s several people working across borders, who live away from their homes and families, have been able to visit their loved ones because of the same after over a year.

Backlash

While normalcy is something that the world has been struggling to achieve since the beginning of COVID-19, the government says it is doing its best it can at the moment.
