Government constantly providing updates to offshore Kiwis
COVID-19 response Minister, Chris Hipkins, was of the view that all the messages being sent to the Kiwi passengers were important. While people may be confused to see several messages with different instructions, with the changing scenario, it is essential that people are updated about each development.

Airlines to play a major role in transporting Kiwis back to New Zealand
Messages to the Kiwis stuck in Australia are being made public through press conferences after the airlines were notified so that they could put out instruction texts or calls to the passengers travelling with them.
Besides, government websites and COVID-19-related sites are updated with these messages, so that people hear them right from the source when they try to look for the relevant information.
While there are currently only managed flights functioning from Sydney, air travel from New South Wales without quarantine is currently on hold for the near future.

Surging COVID-19 cases in Australia affect travel bubble
Until last week, the guideline being work upon was that people returning from NSW would be able to arrive without the need for quarantine if they had fulfilled their pre-departure testing requirements. However, now, since the risk has increased and the situation has become slightly more alarming, there would be a need for MIQ (Managed Isolation and Quarantine) for the Kiwis returning to their home country.
There is still a decision to be made on whether Melbourne flights shall be put on a hold. However, Hipkins is of the view that Kiwis must evaluate the possibilities of returning home. This is because if there is a sudden travel pause put in place, people might have to face problems with things like managing their expenses and struggling with a consistent accommodation, etc.

As per the the latest updates, Australia is contemplating a 3-day lockdown to suppress the infection. There is currently not enough information available from Victoria’s officials for taking the exact course of action and therefore, precautionary measures are being announced by the NZ government.
