  • Canva to continue scaling the Flourish platform while integrating its visualisation tech.
  • Canva is aiming to double its expansion in UK.

Design software company, Canva, has always been in news for its acquisitions. Adding to the rich league, now it has expanded its client offering with a new acquisition. Canva has added London-based data visualisation company Flourish to its business. Beginning today, Canva website and app will have a new plugin with Flourish's features.

The Australian company seeks to double its expansion in UK. London-based Flourish gives Canva access to 750,000 users already using Flourish tools. Both businesses aim to make complex discipline easier by empowering the world with design.

How much has Canva paid to acquire Flourish?

Canva has not revealed the terms of the acquisition. However, the deal stands as Canva's sixth acquisition adding Flourish's London-based staff to its business. The acquisition also follows an AU$200 billion capital raise by Canva in September. The capital raise had taken Canva's valuation to AU$55 billion in September.

Does Flourish’s business align with that of Canva?

While Canva focuses on visual communication, Flourish focuses on data visualisation for storytelling.

Canva uses design templates to get advanced results quickly; Flourish focuses on data visualisation.

Different types and sizes of organisations use Flourish's platform. Organisations and individuals use Flourish tools to turn complex datasets into understandable visualisations.

What is changing on Canva and Flourish?

With the addition of Flourish to the Canva family, one can expect these changes on Canva-

  • With the Flourish plugin, charts for projection maps and thousands of templates for data will be readily available.
  • A community for chart creation, data source connects, and other design interactive infographics.
  • For Flourish users, they will now be able to create visuals privately as nothing will be visible to everyone unless published publicly.
  • Individuals on a personal plan will choose to switch to a new free plan by ending their subscription or staying and retaining support.

Canva and Flourish seek to combine data and creativity for users.

How will Canva expand business?

Flourish team will continue to work parallelly from their London office while integrating their visualisation technology into Canva. In addition, Canva claims to be actively hiring for several roles to join its rapidly growing team.

Road ahead for Canva-

In the era of data becoming the new gold, demand for good data visualisation tools remains high. Canva seems to be moving along the trend. While it keeps adding on new creatives, Canva enhances its platform with Flourish's easy data charts. However, the success of any acquisition is only better known with time.
