Woomera Mining Records Several Dozen Pegmatites At Magpie Range Project

Woomera Mining Limited (ASX: WML) announced that the Rock chip sampling of the pavement outcrops and mineral scatters returned anomalous lithium, caesium and tantalum and light rare earth elements at Magpie Range project area.

It occurred after the miner recorded several dozen pegmatite bodies in the field mapping. The report read that these pegmatites were either in low relief outcrops or in the form of mineral scatters which were of variable widths and lengths, covering the Project area. The company believes that there are many more pegmatites present in the area given the limited outcrop in regions mapped and sampled.

During November 2018, the company conducted gridded soil and reconnaissance rock chip sampling on a relatively coarse 400m x 400m grid over ground peripheral to magnetic features intruding the Carlindie Granitoid Complex. Initially, the company collected soil samples and analyzed in the field by portable X-Ray Fluorescence which was then reportedly dispatched to Australian Laboratory Services.

The company’s soil program was modified several times which eventually resulted in 147 soil samples, and 34 in situ rock chip and silcrete samples. The sample results demonstrated that Barium and rubidium were present in almost every sample while the range of metasomatism elements was analyzed in the samples. These pegmatites related to fertile peraluminous intrusives had varied elements including caesium, thorium, uranium, lanthanum, niobium, manganese, barium and strontium.  The company said that detecting these elements from the recent soil sampling campaign illustrates that hard rock sources are dispersed into and across the soil profile at Magpie Range.

These results obtained from sampling are reportedly planned to be utilized in designing future exploration sampling programs aimed at locating lithium-bearing pegmatite and possibly greisenised granite.

Further, it has been discussed by the company that The petrogenesis and diversity of mineralization within fractionated granitic pegmatites is variable and can be complicated. The general model of granite – pegmatite field transition is a gradual spread in vertical to sub-horizontal directions. Moreover, mature evolved pegmatites are reported to have the potential of containing economic deposits of lithium minerals tantalum, pollucite, and beryllium.

Woomera Mining Limited is an Australia-based mining exploration company. The company is mainly into the exploration of lithium, caesium, and tantalum and light rare earth metals. It holds exploration licenses in the Musgrave Province and Gawler Craton located in South Australia as well as significant lithium tenement portfolio in Western Australia.

With this update, Woomera traded at lower levels as its stock price plunged 4.938% to last trade at $0.077 on 21 December 2018. Over the past 12 months, WML has fallen by 53.71%, and in the past one month, it is down by 3.57%.
