As the name itself suggests, a security or property which loses value over its life and has a limited life is tagged as a wasting asset. During the phase of depreciation, which is inevitable in the case of most assets, the asset is referred to as a wasting asset. One should note that wasting assets are often considered worthy of the initial investment and might bear the potential to generate significant profit for the business.
