Kingwest Resources Ltd (ASX:KWR), Australia’s well-known mining and exploration company, notified in its latest ASX update that it has developed Exploration Targets within the Menzies Gold Project (MGP), that are currently being drilled for the main mineralised systems.
The Exploration Targets are within the Princess May, Lady Shenton and First Hit systems, whose details are given in the below table:
These Exploration Targets support Kingwest’s 2020 drilling programmes targeted at delineating extensions to the historic high-quality underground mineralisation and proving up new mineral resources.
Let’s take a quick look at these Exploration Targets in some detail below:
Princess May Lode Depth Extension
The Company has previously reported the presence of very high-grade mineralisation within the lowest levels of the Princess May Shoot at Yunndaga, at a vertical depth of ~625m. High grade gold mineralisation beyond the current vertical depth is referred as depth extension. The Exploration Target that will be tested at Yunndaga is the depth extension of the Princess May Lode.
The Princess May Extension Exploration Target of 194,000t - 388,800 tonnes at a grade of 10g/t Au - 16g/t Au has been calculated using the following assumptions in line with JORC Code (2012):
Lady Shenton Lode Depth Extension
Similar to Yunndaga system, the Company announced the presence of very high-grade mineralisation within the lowest levels of Lady Shenton, at a vertical depth of ~218m in February 2020. The ore presence at this level indicates that gold mineralisation is present further deeper and below the current workings. The downward continuation of the Lady Shenton Lode is a significant Exploration Target, reported Kingwest.
The Lady Shenton Extension Exploration Target of 121,500t - 182,250t at a grade of 16g/t Au - 32g/t Au has been calculated using the following assumptions in line with JORC Code (2012):
The Company will test this Exploration Target via completion of drill holes.
First Hit Lodes Depth Extension
Historically, the First Hit lodes, open at depth, were mined from underground workings, with a production of 71,269t @ 23.4g/t Au for 53,748 oz Au from 1929 to 1948. These lodes have not been drill-tested and lie within the First Hit System with historic underground production of 165,000t @ 32g/t Au for 171,000 oz Au.
The Company added that the downward continuation of the First Hit lodes is a significant Exploration Target.
The First Hit Extension Exploration Target of 64,800t to 97,200t at a grade of 16g/t Au to 32g/t Au has been calculated using the following assumptions in line with JORC Code (2012):
The Company will test this Exploration Target via completion of drill holes.
Kingwest Continues Drilling for Testing Exploration Targets
The Company notified that the ongoing initial ~8,300m Reverse Circulation (RC) and Diamond core (DD) drilling programme is testing these Exploration Targets within the Yunndaga, Lady Shenton and First Hit systems. The Company reported about the commencement of this drilling programme at MGP on 4th March 2020.
The initial drilling programme comprises:
- 3,700m at Lady Shenton Lode,
- 3,300m at Yunndaga (Princess May Lode); and
- 1,300m at First Hit Lodes.
Though the continuing drilling programme includes testing of certain near-surface mineralisation, it majorly concentrates on testing of deeper Exploration Targets, which consist of expected continuation of high-quality gold mineralisation beneath historical underground workings at MGP’s three larger gold deposits.
The Company mentioned that there are several other blind, extensional, shallow and geophysical targets not being tested in this programme; however, it has used understanding gained from the 2019 drilling campaign to focus on the highest priority areas in the short-term.
Kingwest’s ongoing drilling programme is projected to be completed in late May 2020, which may be extended depending on results. The Company seems to be well on track to deliver successful drilling results and thereby prove high-grade resources.
