For some people, travelling is an excellent opportunity to earn valuable life lessons from visiting new places or experiencing the culture. For some, it is an occasion to get out of their comfort zone and become self-dependent. Yet, for others, it could be as mundane as sleeping late.

Regardless of these aspirations, the lack of safe and sustainable travelling practices could make that experience not only downright unpleasant but also agonizing as a trip through hell. You may be robbed or fall sick or face threats that could endanger your body, mind, and soul.

So, what steps one should take to make that much-awaited pleasure trip a lasting experience. Travelling keeps us connected and rejuvenated every time we undertake a journey to a distant land and culture – an experience to cherish. First, however, we must make the right choices to protect ourselves and the environment from various threats like pollution. Thus, it is upon us to ensure a safe, pollution-free travel that is sustainable and at the same time meet our travel goals.

Tips for safe, sustainable travel

Masks and sanitizers are a must to keep you safe from various pollution and disease. This safety measure cannot be ignored at all costs. We must first keep ourselves safe to enjoy the trip.

Carry a water bottle, mug, and home-packed food that will come handy. And we should avoid buying takeaway coffee mugs, soft drinks and water bottles that create junk. Instead, we should refill our flask or mug while on tour. The same goes for food.

Buy items and services from the locals to support local tourism and the economy. Tourism is often the primary source of revenue for people living in and around scenic spots and places of archeological and cultural significance. For instance, you can support the local economy by eating and shopping locally or using local transport and staying in one of their eco-friendly lodges.

Keep your carbon footprint at a minimum. In this regard, some habits are helpful whether you are at home or travelling. First, habits like switching off the lights when not in use, reducing trash, preventing food waste, and using multipurpose reusable items would greatly help minimize carbon footprint.

Choose your mode of transport and place of stay wisely. Different places have different modes of transport, so we must select the most eco-friendly mode. Also, in hotels, one must use toiletries economically to reduce waste and wash clothes on alternate days instead of daily. You can also ask the hotel staff that you are happy to reuse the towel.

Thus, safe and sustainable travel is more than a choice, but a responsibility.
