Jeff Bezos, Amazon's billionaire founder, started from a small online bookstore, which eventually transformed into a global retail juggernaut. The evolution has been phenomenal and a success story in itself.
This is the first time that he is handing over the CEO's responsibilities to someone. In a letter to the “fellow Amazonians”, Bezos mentioned he has full confidence in Andy Jassy, who has been a part of the company ever since Amazon was founded. He added that Jassy would prove to be an excellent leader.

Andy Jassy - The Technical Expert
The incoming CEO joined Amazon in 1997, fresh out of Harvard Business School. He is known for his perfection and strong technical understanding.
He had joined the company as a marketing manager. In 2006, he started Amazon Web Services (AWS), which competes with Alphabet Inc's Google Cloud and Microsoft Corp's Azure. It provides on-demand cloud computing platforms and Application Programming Interface (API) to governments, companies, and individuals. AWS now caters to nearly half of the world's public cloud infrastructure market.
Personal Life: Andy Jassy has been married to Elana Rochelle Caplan since the year 1997, and he is a father to two children. His personal interests include music and sports. He is a part-owner of Seattle Kraken, the new Seattle National Hockey League franchise. He also often speaks on social issues.
Professional Stints: One of the critical reasons that Jassy is replacing Jeff Bezos is his success at AWS, which helped Amazon transform from an e-commerce player to a cloud computing company. He reportedly has more than USD 30 million shares at the company. Jassy strongly believes in reinventing at all possible times, along with the understanding of what is working and what is not.
Jassy encountered his biggest challenge when he lost a significant Pentagon cloud contract worth USD 10 billion to Microsoft. He believes that it was due to former US president Donald Trump's unfair intervention in the process.
While working at Amazon, he served as a technical assistant to Jeff Bezos, and he is believed to be leader instrumental in pushing the company to grow beyond the book sales, catapulting it to where it is now.
His technical expertise and an attitude to reinvent all the time look promising, especially in the time of technology advancements due to the pandemic. According to him, the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the shift to cloud by several years.
