A new train service between Auckland and Waikato has started recently. This has been a cause for concern for a while as there was no proper connectivity between these two points. g. The launch of this new Te Huia Service is nothing short of a vital connector between the two locations.
The special route train!
With the first-ever run on this route was witnessed by 80 passengers, the total capacity of this service is 150 people. In the first-ever trip between the two locations, the service began from Hamilton at about 5:46 a.m. Due stops were made at Huntly and The Base (shopping center) stations, before the train arrived at the destination in Papakura. When and how frequent the train will be?
It is to be noted that the Te Huia is going to be functional only on limited select Saturdays. On the other hand, there shall be two services a day from Papakura to Hamilton.
It was a much-awaited route and will definitely prove helpful to a lot of people commuting from far-off places to their work every day. Samuel Dysart, a local commuter from Huntly, revealed how he had bought a home there 2 years ago. He further added that if the train became a regular on the route, he should definitely be using it.
He further said that even though taking the train might add time to his daily commute and the cost might not get affected much by and large, he would still opt for the train rather than driving down. This is because the train will be convenient in the sense that one could work on the train.
Embarking greener routes
This NZ$90M investment is a part of a 5-year project. It is to be noted that the SuperGold card holders shall enjoy these trips for free. As part of New Zealand’s effort to make public transport more and more convenient and desirable so that eventually the use of private vehicles decreases, these are times when a lot of people across the world are realising that preferring train is a wiser option. The Mayor, Allan Sanson, is hoping to see more commuters on this route in the future, saying this was the start of a new journey.
