Highlights

  • The Australian Federal Government has set the vaccination targets of 70% and 80% of the population for the age group of 16 and above.
  • Virgin Australia joined Qantas to encourage Australians to get vaccinated offering free flights, points, and PJs.
  • Virgin Australia opened national COVID-19 vaccination competition to thank COVID-19 vaccinated Aussies.

Australia witnessed one of its biggest logistical exercises during FY21, with the rollout of over 20 million COVID-19 vaccines. Initially, the Australian Government expected to get around 4 million citizens vaccinated by March 2021, but somehow this target couldn’t get achieved. With the shortage of Pfizers, it got tough for the Government to meet its target of over 45 million doses of COVID-19 by the end of October 2021.

The Australian Government took foreign help for overcoming the shortage of COVID-19 vaccines. Singapore is soon slated to supply 500,000 Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses as a part of a “Vaccine Swap” between two countries.

Other than policy intervention, corporate Australia is also doing its bit to increase vaccination. One such sector are aviation sector, where companies have also jumped on the vaccination bandwagon in a bid to encourage the citizens to get vaccinated. After Qantas Airways (ASX:QAN), Virgin Australia has also announced its vaccination rewards program.
