The mysterious disappearance of 33-year-old Sarah Everard in the UK and the arrest of a police officer on suspicion of her murder has reignited the debate around abuse and harassment of women. Social media is flooded with posts and recommendations on women safety.
Amidst this, we researched on some of the existing safety apps in the market, which can be used by women in distress. Here's what you need to know:
- React Mobile
This app, which is available on iOS and Android platform, can send silent SOS messages to the preselected people in your list when in trouble. React Mobile can also send a group alert and enable people to walk you home virtually. The main feature of this app is the React Mobile Shield, which can be located in the centre and when you tap it. The app will automatically send alerts comprising your GPS coordinates to people through Twitter, Facebook, Text and Email. The Shield also allows you to call emergency services number -911.
- Red Panic Button
This app has a panic button that can immediately send a message to selected people, who can then try to locate you to ensure your safety. The app also provides you support in case of a medical emergency. God forbid, but if you meet with an accident or face health issues, you can press the red button and it will send an SOS message signalling you require immediate attention.
- Circleof6
Circleof6 app allows its users to select six people whom they consider as a part of your 'circle'. In distress situations, the app gives you three options:
- On selecting the pin icon, the app will send a text to these six people along with your GPS coordinates.
- On tapping the phone icon, the circle will get a text that'll indicate that someone needs to call you.
- Last option is a chat icon that tells your circle that you're in trouble and you need to talk.
