North Melbourne and Jasmine Garner have made emphatic AFLW statements as the Kangaroos convincingly beat Richmond by six goals in their semi-final.

A fortnight after being tagged out of the crucial round-10 draw with the Tigers, Garner was supreme on Saturday at Punt Rd in the 11.8 (74) to 6.2 (38) win.

The Tigers bowed out of their first finals series in straight sets, while North showed premiership credentials with their highest score of the season.

They will now play Melbourne next week in a preliminary final and Tigers coach Ryan Ferguson has no doubt they have what it takes.

Asked if North could win the flag, Ferguson replied: "Don't see why not - bloody oath they can."

The round-10 draw scored fourth spot for the Tigers, who snatched the double chance from Geelong and North.

After surviving a low-scoring elimination final slug fest against the Cats last week, North set aside the scoring inaccuracy that has plagued them this season.

Garner contributed two goals in a best-afield masterclass that also featured 22 possessions, seven tackles and seven clearances.

Meg Macdonald tagged Garner out of the game a fortnight ago, but coach Darren Crocker said her response definitely sparked the Kangaroos.

"It can't help but lift the team, when one of your better players lowers her colours ... and then her teammates see the work she's put in, especially this week, to be able to shake that tag," he said.

"Everyone else can't help but get a lift, because they saw 'OK, Jas is getting to work and she's not going to allow this to happen again'."

It also helped Garner's cause that Macdonald needed treatment during the game for a sore knee.

Monique Conti (groin) and Eilish Sheeran (thumb) were also hurt, while Sarah Hosking's brutal bump on Mia King left the North player with sore ribs and will come under video scrutiny.

Crocker said King should be in no doubt to play the Demons.

He added after they finish eighth, North are showing their true ability.

"Hopefully this doesn't sound arrogant in any way ... but I felt we should be up in that top echelon, as a top-four team," he said.

"We've now been able to prove that and we get a great opportunity against some really strong opposition ... the first one is Melbourne next week.

Ferguson lamented Richmond's inability to stop North taking control early.

After storming into their first finals series, the Tigers were beaten by Brisbane last week and on Saturday ran into a blue and white brick wall.

"They were able to get the game on their terms too much - they're a bloody good football team - and we just weren't able to take that away from them," Ferguson said.

"I do feel like it's been a pretty big season and we did run aground a little bit today."

Tigers foundation player Courtney Wakefield, who has made 1300km round trips from the family farm to realise her AFLW dream, was chaired from the field after her last game.

"She's been such a huge influence on this group ... we're glad she got that moment," Ferguson said..

Only 2439 fans attended the game, despite a rare mild spring day for sodden Melbourne.
