As per the latest media reports, Mr. Paul Abbot has been appointed as the new Chief Executive for Destination Queensland. Mr. Abbot previously worked as the Chief Executive for PNG Air since the year 2018.

The regional tourism organisation’s interim CE position was held by Ann Lockhart, who has also been the Queenstown Chamber of Commerce’s Chief Executive.

All About Destination Queen’s New CEO

Mr. Abbot has worked with PNG Air for a period of nine years where he was responsible for sales, passenger services and the distribution. He also served as the chief commercial officer for the duration.

Amongst the other positions held by him in the past are Chief executive for the Rugby Union of Bay of Plenty, the National Marketing manager at Toyota Tsuhso and the Marketing General Manager for Westpac Rescue Helicopter trust, respectively.

In this new role, Mr. Abbot’s approach would be of listening and learning initially in order to gauge the issues being faced by the shareholders. He would aim towards establishing clear communication with them to ensure the best results in the future. Mr Abbot takes on the new role in the month of July this year.

Destination Queensland Chairperson’s Take On The New CEO

Richard Thomas, Destination Queensland Chair stated that the entire DQ board along with him welcomes Mr. Abbot.  He added that Mr. Abbot has held senior positions in tourism and marketing over the years, whether within the country or overseas. His experience, enthusiasm and his understanding of the role shall be really helpful in helping them achieve the best possible results.

He further said that the communication-focussed approach of Mr. Abbot will be welcome, and he would be able to form better customer relations, which will in turn work towards the benefit of the organisation.  

Mr Abbot who originally hails from Opotiki, New Zealand is currently working in Cairns, Australia. He along with his family are looking forward to moving back to New Zealand. He revealed that he is excited about moving back to the country that is widely known for its tourism performance.
