The new solar plan

In a recent announcement, a new company named Lodestone Energy said that it is all set to invest in as many as 5 functional solar power stations in the Upper North Island area of New Zealand. Experts say these will be able to generate electricity enough to light up 55,000 homes. A sum of NZ$300M has already been raised by the company as preparation for this purchase. The locations of these projects are said to be Coromandel, The Bay of Plenty, and Northland, and they are expected to generate 400 Gigawatt Hours of electricity.

Gary Holden, the managing director of Lodestone, who was previously the head of Pulse, the power supplier, was confident that the above move would increase the solar energy in the country by 8 times. He further said that that was the perfect time for the project, in line with the county’s efforts to go green and reduce harmful effects on the environment.

What will it mean?

In a combined fashion, these 5 plants shall act as a huge power generation platforms, which by using the power of the sun will help generate renewable energy for the normal lives of people. It will be a great way of harnessing the most widely available renewable energy resource, literally. Mr. Holden shed light on the fact that in terms of its economic power, solar energy had seen a substantial surge and would soon be seen at par with its counterparts such as wind power and hydropower.

Preparation

In further preparation for its new project, the company has invested in 500 hectares of land. In New Zealand, there is going to be the installation of as many as half a million solar panels , which will be able to harness energy from the sun while allowing farming operations to run simultaneously on the land, hence making the optimal use of resources.

Mr Holdren, confident that Solar energy is the undeniable future to the country’s diverse energy requirements, said that that was a helpful step in the NZ government achieving its 2030 goal of going completely green.
