New Zealand Post (NZ Post) has chosen Daifuku to offer the single biggest material handling investment initiative within New Zealand in modern history. Daifaku Oceania is a leading supplier of material handlings systems and focuses on end-to-end solutions, processes, and maintenance across aviation and intralogistics industries. The Group is headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand, with offices across Malaysia, Norway, Canada, and Australia.

The modernised facilities will help NZ Post fast-track its ability to deliver faster processing speeds and increase its existing regional delivery capabilities. The new facilities will include completion of automated packet and parcel sortation, along with advanced inbound processing and automatic singulation technology.

NZ Post to get increased visibility and tracking from the project

NZ Post Chief Transformation Officer Janet Selwood stated that the latest eCommerce trends had reflected that Kiwis had invested more than a billion dollars more digitally in 2020 than in 2019 while indicating that people's shopping habits had shifted towards the better.

Kiwis spent $5.8 billion in shopping online in 2020, about $1.2 million more than in 2019 with online sales up by 25% on the prior year, as per NZ Post’s eCommerce Spotlight research.

This investment in the network will allow NZ Post to become more competitive and continue to satisfy the needs of its consumers, while also assisting New Zealand businesses to expand, she added.

Cory Saunders, Executive General Manager, Intralogistics - Daifuku Oceania stated that working with the premier parcel and post carrier of NZ and being active in one of the biggest electronic material handling projects ever conducted in NZ was a significant moment for Daifuku.

Cory added that the project's core goal was to give NZ Post better visibility and monitoring across its network, resulting in improved performance and reliability. Further, supporting NZ Post’s pledge to be carbon free by 2030 is also crucial to the initiative.

The project is expected to be finished in early 2023.
