Improve nutritional health in Australia and abroad

ADF has highlighted that several issues such as misleading product labelling and marketing, supply chain constraints and trade barriers must be addressed to achieve the optimal nutritional health prescribed by the Australian Dietary Guidelines.

To address these challenges, ADF calls upon the political parties to resolve malnutrition in residential aged care, increase access to international trade and market, restore truth in nutrition labelling, maintain live export trade, and make supply chains transparent, fair and competitive.
Focus on growing jobs and liveability
A number of factors including a shortage of workers, fertilisers, housing, investment and regional services have increased challenges to maintaining supply.
Highlighting that the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated these long-standing issues, the organisation has urged for the resolution of workforce shortage and capability deficits in the dairy sector. It aims to provide a more consistent approach to workplace pandemic restrictions and reducing the divide between urban and rural settings.

Increase commitment to sustainability and productivity
The Australian Dairy Industry Sustainability Framework continues to improve farm productivity and profitability with its whole of supply chain approach to many challenges concerning Australia’s international obligations. Amidst several sustainability challenges such as climate change, native flora and fauna decline, natural disasters, and emerging pests and diseases, there is a strong need for the deployment of various mitigation and adaptation measures on farms.
ADF has highlighted several strategies from strengthening the agriculture RDC system to building resilience and responsiveness to climate change to address such challenges.
Moreover, the organisation seeks support for natural capital markets and environmental stewardship. It has called upon the country leaders to maintain strong border controls and program funding for biosecurity and driving the adoption of digital technologies on farms.
