Automotive and clean energy company, Tesla has recalled over 15,000 electric vehicles in Australia over faulty tail lights. According to the transport department, the fault in the tail lights can increase the risk of accidents and cause some serious injury or even death.

On 24 November 2022, the recall was announced by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, and the Art. The recall covers all the variants under the Model 3 and Model Y.

In November, it is the third recall. On 2 November, Model 3 was recalled over the fault in seat belts. On 15 November, all variants of Model S and Model X were recalled over the recently updated software calibration issue.

Details of the Model 3 and Model Y recall

The department highlighted that the tail lamps on both sides or one side might not work as intended due to a software error. In case the tail lamps do not work in dark conditions, then the vehicles behind will face the issue of reduced visibility and might not be able to identify the vehicle. It was mentioned in the press release that software errors do not impact the turn signal, reverse, and brake lamps.

As per the release, if the vehicle is running software version 2011.40.1 or 2022,40.100 or later, then the electric vehicle is not subject to this issue.

Tesla Inc’s (NASDAQ:TSLA) share price has dropped by 49.20% in the past 12 months. On a year-to-date basis, the share price has decreased by 54.19%. However, the share price has surged by 796.28% in the last five years.
