In a tweet, Carney has put to rest all speculations regarding his probable run for the House of Commons. He specifically mentioned that his commitments as the UN special envoy on climate action and finance must take precedence over any participation in Canadian politics.
Carney attended Liberal convention
Speculations fueled after Carney's appearance in a party convention in April 2021. The convention saw the seasoned banker unequivocally pledging allegiance to the party. He went on to say that 'he will do whatever he can to support'. Immediately, Liberal party supporters filled the chat forum with comments like 'Please Run'.
Carney was even seen as a successor to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau by various quarters. In the April convention, he backed Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland's approach of lifting economy out of distress by incurring huge debt. He commented that more than 'sustainability of debts', it is about 'sustainability of livelihoods' that should underpin budget choices.

Impeccable record as banker
Carney steered the Bank of Canada in 2008 during one of the toughest phases when the global economy was reeling from an unforeseen crisis. He led the Bank until 2013.
From 2013, he served the Bank of England as Governor until 2020. He was praised for sensibly managing the economy through the rough patch of Brexit referendum and subsequent negotiations.
The UN Climate Change Conference is set to take place in Glasgow, UK from October 31, 2021. Carney, as the UN envoy will play a key role when participating countries discuss a range of environmental issues including cutting emissions and realization of past pledges, besides pondering on building resilience in the wake of late extreme weather phenomena. Canada reeled from record high temperatures, and Carney may cite this event to draw attention toward urgency of the issue.
