Ever since Facebook changed its name to Meta and said it will explore the metaverse, two cryptocurrencies have gained momentum- Decentraland (MANA) and The Sandbox (SAND).

Since the past two weeks, the MANA crypto soared by 224 per cent and its price increased by 19 per cent in the last 24 hours to US$ 3.01 per token.

The metaverse is a next level version of the internet which would comprise shared three-dimensional virtual spaces. In broad terms, the metaverse could be an entire spectrum of augmented reality.

What is Decentraland?

Launched in 2017, Decentraland came into existence through a US$ 24 million initial coin offering (ICO). This platform allows users to explore the virtual world and they can purchase plots of land, which can be later navigated, build upon and monetized.

As the blockchain-based gaming is becoming increasingly popular, Decentraland allows users to create a wide range of experiences on their land including 3D scenes and interactive games.

There are two tokens of Decentraland and they are MANA and LAND. The use case of MANA crypto is that it can be used to pay for avatars in the game, names, and wearables in the virtual world.

Bottom line

The circulating supply of MANA crypto is 1.3 billion and the total supply is around 2.2 billion tokens.

On October 31, 2021, the MANA crypto had clocked an all-time high (ATH) of US$ 4.11 per token and today it crossed the three-dollar mark and reached US$ 3.12 apiece before settling at US$ 3.01 per token, at the time of writing.

If the cryptocurrency continues to gain the momentum, the MANA crypto could surpass its ATH in near future.
