Highlights

  • CoinMarketCap tracks over 18,000 crypto assets, with many having a billion-dollar market cap
  • The BTT token is said to have infused decentralization into the file-sharing network BitTorrent
  • SHIB has lost value so far in 2022, but the BTT token is trading at more or less the same level

The Shiba Inu cryptocurrency has a very low price for a single unit of it. But in the top 100 crypto list compiled by CoinMarketCap, the SHIB token was not the cheapest, in fact, it was the second cheapest, as of writing.

The cheapest crypto was BitTorrent or the BTT token in the top 100 cryptos ranked by market cap.

What is the BitTorrent cryptocurrency?

TRON, a blockchain network with its TRON cryptocurrency, is said to have acquired the popular peer-to-peer sharing network BitTorrent in 2018. This is said to have infused in BitTorrent the decentralized underpinnings of blockchain technology.

The token BTT uses TRON’s network, making it a TRC-10 cryptocurrency with a multi-billion-dollar market cap.

BTT’s price

As of writing, BTT was trading at nearly US$0.0000018 per token. The price had gained lately, and so had the trading volume of BitTorrent. SHIB crypto’s price on the other hand was nearly US$0.00002, and SHIB too had gained over the past 24 hours.

The low price of the BTT token may be attributed to the number of BTT units in existence. While Bitcoin can have a maximum supply of 21 million, out of which a little under 19 million are already in supply, the BTT token’s circulating supply is over 920 trillion tokens.

BTT price fluctuation

According to CoinMarketCap, the BTT token has fared better than most of the major cryptos in 2022. While the SHIB token had lost over 30 per cent on a YTD basis at the time of writing, the BTT token has not had such deep losses.

Bottom line

In the top 100 cryptos, BTT sits at the top when it comes to the cheapest cryptocurrency. But volatility may ail any crypto, no matter the one with the largest market cap, Bitcoin, which was trading at nearly US$41,000 per token as of writing. Being cautious is recommended.
