The Telegram Open Network (TON) blockchain has resumed normal operations following a brief disruption that halted block production for several hours. The TON Foundation confirmed that the network is now functioning as expected and producing blocks regularly.
On August 28, the (TON) Foundation announced via their X page that block production had resumed, stating, “TON is now producing blocks normally! We are back online.” At the time of the update, data from the TON transaction scanner Dton.io indicated that the blockchain had reached a block count of 231,879,089.
The disruption was attributed to an unusual load on the network, which caused block production to cease temporarily. The issue stemmed from an airdrop event involving a new namecoin called Dogs, which is designed to reflect the culture of the Telegram community. The increased network congestion from the airdrop led to challenges in maintaining consensus among validators.
The TON Foundation reported that several validators struggled with cleaning the database of old transactions, which contributed to the loss of consensus. In response to the situation, the TON Core team called on validators to restart their systems at 4:00 am UTC to restore consensus and normal network operations.
The Foundation assured users that no cryptocurrency assets were lost due to the disruption and emphasized that all transactions would be processed as expected. The prompt resolution and reassurances from the TON Foundation aim to maintain user confidence and ensure the continued stability of the TON blockchain.
