Shiba Inu (SHIB), a cryptocurrency inspired by a dog meme and posed as ‘Dogecoin killer’, is soon expected to offer new functionalities to its users including its own blockchain. The popular cryptocurrency whose value skyrocketed in 2021 seems to drop its ‘memecoin’ tag with the launch of its own blockchain named Shibarium.

SHIB is also expected to come up with reduced gas fees, charges paid to process and validate transactions in a crypto ecosystem. Gas fee has emerged as a significant problem for blockchain. However, there was no exact timeline for the launch of the blockchain.

Writing on Medium, Shiba Inu’s founder Ryoshi said: “I have already spoken to a very competent blockchain team who has volunteered to build and fully decentralize this for the Shiba ecosystem.”

Meanwhile, SHIB was the most viewed digital currency of 2021.

With an m-cap of more than US$20 billion, Shiba Inu was the 13th largest cryptocurrency in terms of valuation last year, according to a “2021 Wrap Up” post that CoinMarketCap tweeted. While Shiba Inu had over 188 million views, Bitcoin stood second with 145 million views in 2021.

Dogecoin was at third position among the most viewed cryptocurrencies with 107 million views. Cardano had nearly 86 million views, while Ethereum gained 81 million views.

Meanwhile, in October 2021, Shiba Inu rose by over 216% within a week and gained struck a new high of

US$0.000088. Each Shiba Inu token was last trading for AU$0.00003823.
