The Bali Blockchain Summit highlighted Indonesia's proactive approach to integrating blockchain technology as part of its broader digital transformation strategy. With a population exceeding 270 million and projections indicating it will become the world's fourth-largest economy by 2040, Indonesia is positioning itself prominently in the global digital economy. As part of its Indonesia Golden Vision 2045, the nation aims to incorporate five key technologies—artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), the metaverse, quantum computing, and blockchain—into its economic and social systems.
Blockchain technology is viewed as a crucial element for enhancing data infrastructure and digital sovereignty. It is anticipated to revolutionize both public and private sector operations by improving transparency, security, and operational efficiency.
Held on August 20 at the Bali Blockchain Center, the Bali Blockchain Summit (BBS) served as a critical forum for discussing Indonesia's increasing role in the blockchain sector. The event, sponsored by Polkadot and hosted by Mandala Chain—a layer-1 blockchain platform built on Polkadot—featured discussions among key stakeholders, government officials, and blockchain experts on strategies for expanding blockchain adoption across Indonesia and other emerging markets.
Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara, Mayor of Denpasar City, inaugurated the summit by highlighting blockchain’s capacity to decentralize power structures, enhancing transparency and fairness. Negara emphasized that blockchain could significantly contribute to Indonesia’s prosperity by fostering greater transparency and efficiency within both government and private sectors.
Among the key announcements was Mandala Chain’s plan to integrate its IDCHAIN solution with Indonesian government agencies. In collaboration with PANDI, the official ".ID" domain registry, this integration aims to onboard over 10 million users and marks a significant advancement in Mandala Chain's blockchain adoption efforts in Indonesia. This initiative will pilot decentralized identity management systems with local governments, impacting sectors such as banking, healthcare, and smart city projects.
Mandala Chain is also partnering with Polkadot and (KILT) Protocol to enhance blockchain infrastructure, focusing on identity verification, secure data management, and cross-border asset tokenization. This collaboration leverages Polkadot’s scalability and interoperability, alongside KILT’s expertise in decentralized identity solutions, to develop a robust infrastructure suited for emerging markets like Indonesia.
The Bali Blockchain Summit underscored Indonesia's commitment to blockchain technology and digital innovation, suggesting a promising trajectory for Web3 technologies in the region.
