Artificial intelligence firm DecideAI has achieved a notable milestone by deploying OpenAI’s GPT-2 on the {Internet Computer} (ICP) blockchain. This deployment, announced on August 28, represents a significant development in the integration of AI models with blockchain technology.

GPT-2, released by OpenAI in 2019, is the second iteration of the company’s generative pre-trained transformer models. DecideAI’s initiative is described as a pioneering effort to explore novel approaches for training, maintaining, and deploying AI models within blockchain environments. According to Raheel Govindji, founder and CEO of DecideAI, the deployment of GPT-2 on-chain is intended to advance the capabilities of on-chain AI models and address key challenges related to trust and privacy.

DecideAI views this deployment as a crucial step toward the development of more advanced on-chain AI models. The company envisions future models supporting various sectors, including healthcare, where they could assist with patient data and treatment recommendations. Similarly, in finance and education, these models could enhance fraud detection and facilitate verifiable updates and training data management on-chain.

AI’s application in decentralized finance (DeFi) has already shown its in areas such as fraud detection, identity verification, and anti-money laundering efforts. Crypto exchanges, including Binance, have incorporated AI to counteract fraudulent activities.

Research from Salesforce highlights widespread concerns about the reliability of AI training data, with 50% of 6,000 surveyed global knowledge workers expressing distrust. Furthermore, nearly 70% of those lacking trust in AI training data are hesitant to adopt AI technologies. Similar sentiments were reflected in a 2023 survey by Salesforce and Roy Morgan.

Looking ahead, DecideAI plans to expand its on-chain AI initiatives to other blockchain platforms, such as Ethereum and Solana. Lomesh Dutta, Vice President of Growth at Dfinity, expressed the firm's aspiration to develop interoperable AI systems across various blockchain ecosystems, aiming to enhance the integration and functionality of AI within decentralized frameworks.
