They say good things come in small packages and that may be true. But when it comes to Australia’s largest houses, that is certainly not the case. These properties are beautiful – although it goes without saying, they are not in the price range of almost 99% of Australians, in fact, far from it. When you see the price tags on some of these not-so-humble dwellings, it will probably make your jaw drop. Then again it might inspire you to make your first million.

So, without further ado, here are Australia’s most expensive houses.  

10. 29A Wulnulla Road, Point Piper, Sydney, NSW

Price : AU$37,000,000

Staying in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, another AU$37 million range property was sold in March 2021 and it’s the most expensive boatshed offered for sale in Australia.

In just four years the property has appreciated more than AU$10 million in value having sold for AU$30 million in 2017.

The boatshed is two stories and more than 2000 square meters with a swimming pool overlooking the gorgeous Sydney Harbour.

It also contains one of the largest marina berths on Sydney Harbour.

The boatshed has accommodation on the upper level will undergo development to convert it into a house.

9. Wolseley Road, Point Piper, Sydney NSW

Price: AU$40,000,0000

Not surprisingly, Point Piper features in this list more than once due to it being the residents of some of Australia’s wealthiest citizens.

This lavish property is located at the top of the hill at Wolseley Road Sydney harbour and comes with a  striking, four-level residence.

Designed by renowned architects Tzannes and Associates, this property is a modern, luxurious residence and sold in April 2021 for around AU$40 million.

8. Eco-Mansion 1 Wingadal Place, Point Piper, NSW

Price: AU$40,000,000

Sydney's most expensive sale so far in 2021, belongs to a three-story home in the lucrative suburb of Port Piper in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

The five-bedroom, six-bathroom eco-mansion was sold for over AU$40million in May 2021.

The home’s features include an infinity pool made from Cait Rosso red marble, six luxury bathrooms, an automated waterfront-facing Italian window system, and a four-car garage with a turntable out the front of it.

The interiors of the house contain recycled Karri wood, imported Italian marble, and  sandstone from Wondabyne.

7. 21 Coppin Grove, Hawthorn, Melbourne, VIC

Price:   AU$40,500,000

The AU$40.5 million price tag made this house – called  Invergowrie - the second-highest ever paid for residential property in Melbourne.

The five-bedroom home sits on a massive 1.1-hectare block and has a guest house as well as a gym.

The colonial-style main homestead offers 15 separate rooms and is surrounded by beautiful lawns and gardens, line with majestic green trees.

6. 26 Knightsbridge Pde East, Sovereign Island, Gold Coast, QLD

Price: AU$45,000,000

Located on the sunny Gold Coast in southern Queensland, this six-bedroom mansion made headlines in 2013 when it was sold in an unfinished state for AU$5.3 million.

This palatial waterfront home contains a 30-meter pool, a Roman-inspired garden and a four-meter statue of Neptune from Florence.

So, if you have a spare fifty million dollars lying around, perhaps one of these houses is for you. If not, then there’s no harm in dreaming.

5. Sutherland Shire Trophy Home

Price: AU$50,000,000

If this property was located in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, it would likely be the most expensive on this list. It is by far the largest and most decadent of the listed properties and has been described as one of the most exceptional houses ever built in Sydney.

This huge home contains seven bedrooms and 23 bathrooms as well as a gym (which includes a yoga and pilates studio), library, home cinema, a lap pool (both indoor and outdoor because…well, why not?), a Turkish steam room, a 2000 bottle wine cellar and even two bowling alleys.

Beyond that, it even has a subterranean bat cave with a car park large enough for twenty cars!

4. Saunders St, Mosman Park, WA

Price: AU$57,500,000

This massive 7567-square metre property has its own cinema, three separate buildings as well as a private jetty and tennis court.

At the time of its last sale in 2009, it smashed price records bearing an AU$45 million Sydney property the year prior.

3. Level 43/163 Castlereagh Street, Sydney, NSW

Price: AU$60,000,000

This award-winning penthouse sits around 180-metres above street level right in the heart of Sydney’s central business district.

The penthouse, spread across 2395 square meters, contains four bedrooms, five bathrooms and 2 car spaces.

Additionally, this opulent, palatial residence contains a private elevator, a large fireplace, and panoramic views of Sydney along with 24-hour security.

2. Lar Mer – Vaucluse, NSW

Price: AU$70,000,000

Located in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, this spectacular property was sold by James and Erica Packer in 2015 for AU$70 million.

The six-story house was intended to be casino mogul, Packer and his then-wife, Ericka’s marital home but it was left empty after they split up.

The six-bedroom main residence contains large entertainment spaces as well as staff quarters, a lap pool, and a 20-car space garage.

1. Fairwater – Point Piper, NSW

Price: AU$100,000,000

This classic, two-storey mansion is located in the harbourside Sydney suburb of Point Piper.

Built in 1882, the heritage house features stained glass windows, mosaic floors and chimney pieces.

Owned by the famous Fairfax family – owner of Fairfax Ltd. -  for over a century, this heritage home sits on a sprawling 1.12-hectare estate. It sold in 2018 for AU$100 million and is considered Australia’s most expensive home.
