Sydney is one of the most expensive cities in the world, even though it is not the capital of Australia.

Together with Melbourne, the houses in Sydney are ultra-pricey and rank among the least affordable cities in the whole world.

According to some sources, buying a house in Sydney could cost a whopping A$1.14 million on an average, making it too unaffordable for most of the people living in the city.

Even though not all suburbs are as expensive, but some come with price tags higher than one million dollars.

Below are the top 10 most expensive suburbs in Sydney, as ranked by a Metropole report.

#1 – Darling Point

Median housing price – A$7.7 million

Darling Point holds the crown for having the most expensive housing market in the whole of Sydney.

Located in Eastern suburbs, Darling Point is four kilometres away from Sydney CBD, which comes with astonishing views of the city harbour and corporate skyscrapers.

The suburb is surrounded by other expensive areas like Double Bay, Edgecliff, Rushcutters Bay, and Sydney Harbour.

If one wants to purchase a Darling Point house, they will need to set aside A$7.7 million on an average, while renting a house costs around A$2,200 a week.

On the other hand, units in Darling Point cost A$2.4 million on an average, and A$900 for weekly rent.

#2 – Bellevue Hill

            Median housing price – A$6.4 million

Bellevue Hill is the second most expensive suburb in Sydney.

The area is famous for affluent residents that enjoy close proximity to prestigious private schools, beaches, designer shops, and a beautiful city centre.

People living in Bellevue Hill are also known for maintaining gardens, which could be seen in almost every patio in the area.

However, beautiful gardens and exclusive institutions come with a vast median price tag of A$6.4 million for a house in Bellevue Hill. Renting a house in the area costs around A$2,200 per week.

Prices for Bellevue Hill units are A$1.1 million on an average, while a weekly rent is A$720.

#3 – Vaucluse

            Median housing price – A$5.84 million

Vaucluse is another Eastern suburb that earnt the third most expensive ranking in Sydney areas.

Similar to Darling Point, Vaucluse is also a peninsula looking over the business corner of the city. It is eight kilometres away from the CBD and is blessed with astonishing views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The suburb offers many beaches around its borders, most of them being highly popular on world-famous platforms such as Tripadvisor.

An average house in Vaucluse costs an enormous A$5.84 million. On the positive side, units are a lot more affordable compared to homes, costing around A$1.1 million.

#4 – Tamarama

            Median housing price – A$5.8 million

Tamarama is located only one kilometre away from Bondi beach which is one of the most famous beaches globally.

The Eastern suburb offers grandiose views of the Pacific Ocean, artistic buildings and private properties.

For a modern home in Tamarama, one would need to spend A$5.8 million on an average, while median housing rent costs A$2,150 weekly.

Units in Tamarama cost around A$1.4 million.

#5 – Double Bay

            Median housing price – A$4.48 million

Double Bay is home to many famous Australian celebrities and entertainers, located in Eastern suburbs.

Double Bay has a lot of concrete areas filled with unique fashion boutiques and fancy cafes that are usually built on the ground level of real estate properties.

On an average, a house in Double Bay costs around A$4.48 million, while renting one would cost A$1,800 a week.

Compared to houses, units in Double Bay are not much more affordable, worth A$1.4 million on an average.

#6 – Cremorne Point

            Median housing price – A$4.4 million

Cremorne Point is the most expensive suburb on the north side of the bridge, positioned near the famous Taronga Zoo and Neutral Bay.

It has a harbourside view of the beach and Sydney’s CBD, as it is only six kilometres away from the corporate Sydney.

Cremorne Point is known for great privacy and lovely views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Moreover, the area is famous for a poolside walk that looks over the CBD.

Both houses and apartments in Cremorne Point come with hefty price tags – A$4.4 million for a home, and A$1.3 million for a unit.

#7 – Centennial Park

            Median housing price – A$4.1 million

The distance between the south-east Centennial Park and the Sydney CBD is only four kilometres.

Centennial Park houses many Federation and Victorian buildings that add a layer of elegance to the modern city.

Even though a house in Centennial Park costs a breathtaking A$4.1 million, it is not that easy to actually purchase it.

However, Centennial Park might have the most affordable units and rentals out of all the Eastern suburbs on this list, as one apartment costs around A$770,000, and renting the same for a week would cost A$550.

#8 – Dover Heights

            Median housing price – A$4.1 million

Dover Heights is a coastal area of Eastern suburbs, characteristic of spectacular Sydney CBD views and enjoyable cliff walks.

The area is located close to Bondi Beach and a famous Dudley Page Reserve.

The houses in Dover Heights cost about A$4.1 million, while the weekly rent is around A$1,448.

Units in the same area are not a lot cheaper compared to their houses, as apartments cost A$1.4 million.

#9 – Mosman

            Median housing price – A$4 million

Mosman is one of the most famous weekend getaways on the northern side of the bridge, with multi-storey houses looking over the beach.

This luxurious area is a home to people of all generations, from younger families to retired couples.

Mosman offers some modern houses with a retro touch or Victorian-style houses for those who enjoy old-fashioned architecture.

While houses cost around A$4 million, Mosman units are a bit more affordable at A$1 million.

#10 – Longueville

            Median housing price – A$3.9 million

The least expensive high-end suburb, Longueville belongs to the Lower North Shore area, together with St Leonards, Crows Nest, and other close suburbs.

Longueville is known for a quiet lifestyle designed for families that want more privacy and security.

A house in Longueville could cost about A$3.9 million, while median renting prices are close to A$1,200 weekly.
