- Blackstone finalizes merger with IDM International
- Gains full ownership of the Mankayan copper-gold project
- Board reshuffle strengthens project development outlook
In a significant development for the Australian resource sector, Blackstone Minerals (ASX:BSX) has officially completed its merger with IDM International, securing 100% interest in the advanced-stage Mankayan copper-gold project located in the Philippines. The merger, achieved through a scheme of arrangement, includes the issuance of 692 million new shares and 83.5 million options to IDM shareholders as consideration.
The Mankayan project is widely regarded as one of the largest undeveloped high-grade porphyry systems globally, aligning strongly with the growing demand for energy transition metals. With this acquisition, Blackstone aims to leverage the strategic value of copper and gold, key elements in the shift toward renewable technologies and infrastructure.
Described by the company as an “unparalleled opportunity,” the Mankayan asset holds significant promise due to its scale, resource potential, and favorable development jurisdiction. The Philippines is considered a pro-mining environment, further enhancing the project’s feasibility and investment appeal.
The deal brings immediate focus to near-term exploration milestones and long-term development objectives. Blackstone highlights its operational expertise and established regional relationships as critical factors in progressing Mankayan to its next phase. The integration of IDM’s experience and resources is expected to accelerate planning and implementation.
To reinforce its strategy, Blackstone has made pivotal changes to its executive team. Geoffrey Gilmour, previously a director at IDM, has joined the board of Blackstone. His background in project development and stakeholder management across the Asia-Pacific region is viewed as a strong complement to the company’s evolving vision.
Meanwhile, outgoing directors Dr Frank Bierlein, Alison Gaines, and Dan Lougher will step down upon full integration, alongside company secretary Jamie Byrde. The role will now be jointly managed by Carla Healy and Tim Slate, reflecting a renewed focus on streamlined corporate governance.
While Blackstone Minerals (ASX:BSX) is not currently part of the ASX 200, the acquisition of Mankayan positions the company to significantly enhance its profile within the resource investment landscape. The project’s scope and strategic relevance to future metals demand could make Blackstone a name to watch in the sector’s evolving dynamics.
With the completion of this transformative merger, Blackstone is now poised to advance one of Southeast Asia’s most promising copper-gold developments, further strengthening its footprint in the region’s mining industry.
