Highlights
- Anson Resources and Posco collaborate on lithium demonstration plant in Utah
- Green River project benefits from cost advantages and strong local infrastructure
- Joint review and funding to drive commercial validation of DLE technology
Anson Resources (ASX:ASN) has entered a pivotal phase in the development of its Green River lithium project in Utah through a new collaboration with Korea’s Posco Holdings. The two companies have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) to build a demonstration plant that aims to validate the viability of direct lithium extraction (DLE) at the site.
The Green River project, owned by Anson's subsidiary Blackstone Minerals, is located about 50 kilometres northwest of the company’s flagship Paradox lithium project. It stands out due to its forecast for low production costs, access to well-established infrastructure, and availability of a skilled local workforce — all of which collectively enhance its development potential.
Strategic Technology and Investment Review
As part of the MoU, Posco has initiated a technical and commercial review of Green River’s operations. The goal is to fund and construct a demonstration facility that will simulate a continuous processing environment, allowing Anson to test and refine its DLE technology. The demonstration plant represents a scaled-up model of a prior pilot version and will help generate significant quantities of lithium product.
Posco’s final investment decision is expected after the completion of its due diligence and internal assessments, scheduled for December 2025. Should the feasibility outcomes prove positive, both companies have also expressed interest in exploring broader business cooperation, including potential joint investment in future phases of the project.
A Step Toward Domestic Lithium Supply Security
With the global lithium supply chain increasingly focused on securing domestic sources, Anson Resources appears well-positioned to meet this evolving demand. By leveraging its US-based operations and cost-effective production model, the company aims to deliver high-purity lithium suitable for a range of battery applications.
This development places Anson among the promising lithium-focused small-caps to watch within the ASX-listed landscape. Though not currently part of the ASX 200 index, the broader interest in lithium and related resources has attracted attention among ASX investors.
As both companies progress toward commercial-scale validation, the partnership signals a promising step in the evolution of direct lithium extraction and sustainable resource development in North America.
