In a landmark achievement for Downer EDI Limited (ASX:DOW), the company’s Industrial & Power Generation team has successfully delivered its 2,000th Motor Control Centre (MCC) skid for Santos (ASX:STO). This milestone, reached in August, highlights Downer's commitment to excellence in electrical projects and its dedication to local manufacturing.
Expanded Contract Highlights Downer’s Expertise
Originally contracted in 2019 to deliver 1,200 MCC skids, Downer’s order was expanded to a total of 2,000 unitsThese MCC skids, crucial for controlling electrical systems at various sites, have been manufactured and assembled at Downer’s cutting-edge production facilities in Hexham, New South Wales, and Richlands, QueenslandThe completion of the 2,000th unit marks a significant achievement for Downer, showcasing its operational and technical prowess.
The process involves initial fit-out, cabling, and testing of the skids at HexhamOnce these stages are completed, the skids are transported to Richlands for final fit-out and quality assurance before being delivered to various sites across Queensland.

Investing in Local Communities and Workforce Development
Downer’s success extends beyond its technical achievements to its positive impact on local communitiesThe project has created jobs and contributed to workforce development, with around 25 people employed in the manufacture and assembly of the MCCs across the Hexham and Richlands workshopsThis includes over 20 apprentices who have gained invaluable experience throughout the project.
Additionally, Downer has strengthened its community engagement by partnering with Aruma, a registered NDIS disability services providerSince April 2023, Aruma has supplied essential materials such as preformed cable and terminal mounting stripsThis collaboration not only supports the local economy but also ensures the seamless execution of the project.
Downer has also showcased how Aruma’s assisted employees contribute to the MCCs, highlighting the company’s commitment to inclusivity and local community support.
