NWS, URW, ORG, NST: How are these ASX 50 stocks faring today?

The S&P/ASX 50 Index is a market capitalisation weighted and float-adjusted index produced by S&P Dow Jones Indices. It is commonly referred to as the 50 largest companies by market capitalisation.

All companies listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) are rated using market capitalisation, although listed investment companies (LICs) and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are excluded. The top 50 ASX stocks that meet volume and investment benchmarks are then considered for inclusion in the index.

The S&P/ASX 50 Index closed at 6,921.30, up 1.92% or 130.70 points today (13 May 2022), while the ASX 200 Index was also 1.93% higher and it closed at 7,075.10 points.

In this article, we will discuss four ASX 50 companies including News Corporation, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, Origin Energy Ltd and Northern Star Resources Limited.

News Corporation (ASX:NWS)

News Corporation is a global media and information services company dedicated to creating and distributing authoritative and engaging content, as well as other products and services to consumers and businesses. The company's segments include Digital Real Estate Services, Subscription Video Services, Dow Jones, Book Publishing, and News Media.

On May 6, 2022, the company had shared its third quarter results for the financial year 2022.

In terms of financials, the corporation reported a 7% gain in third-quarter revenue over the same period the previous year. The quarter's net income increased by 8%, while overall segmental EBITDA increased by 20% as compared to the previous year. As a result, NWS shares had a reported EPS of US$0.14, up from US$0.13 the previous year.

News Corp shares were trading almost 5% up at AU$25.77 each at 1.30 PM AEST on ASX today (13 May 2022).

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (ASX:URW)

Real estate company Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield owns and operates commercial property portfolio in the UK, Europe, and the US, predominately shopping centres and also offices and convention & exhibition centres.

The commercial real estate firm released its first-quarter 2022 trading update on April 28, 2022. In comparison to Q1 2021, the company's turnover increased by 34.2%. Unibail's tenant sales improved even more during the time, reaching 93% of 2019 levels in Q1 and 95% in March.

Shares of URW were spotted trading at AU$5.33, up 1.6% on ASX today at 1.45 PM AEST. This is in line with ASX 200 Real Estate Index which was 1.25% up at 3,286.79 points.

Origin Energy Ltd (ASX:ORG)

Origin Energy Limited is an energy firm established in Australia. The company's activities include natural gas exploration and production, energy generation, wholesale and retail electricity and gas sales, and liquefied natural gas sales.

The company's shares were 0.825 up, trading at AU$6.78 each at 1.54 PM AEST on ASX today. This underperformed ASX All Ordinaries Index which was 1.605 up at 7,281.50 points.

Northern Star Resources Limited (ASX:NST)

Northern Star Resources Ltd is a gold mining firm established in Australia. The company's main business is gold exploration, development, mining, and processing, as well as the selling of refined gold. Kalgoorlie Operations, Yandal Operations, Pogo, KCGM Joint Venture, and Exploration are the company's five segments.

On 3 May 2022, the firm released its annual resource and reserve statement on the ASX, which supported organic production growth. Northern Star Resources maintained its long-term gold price assumption. The corporation asserted, however, that these were cautious enough to maximise shareholder returns.

Shares of Northern Star Resources were trading at AU$8.53 apiece, up 0.35% on ASX today at 2.03 PM AEST.
