Market Close Commentary; 10 September 2020

After yesterday's horror trading session, today the Australian stock market has ended in the green zone and settled at 5908.5, up by 0.51 per cent as compared to yesterday's closing of 5878.6 points.

The market remains volatile, and Australia continues to be in the grip of the second wave of the coronavirus crisis, as today Victoria reported 51 new cases and seven deaths.

The US stock market on Wednesday also rebounded with Nasdaq Composite increased by 2.71 per cent, the Dow industrials jumped by 1.60 per cent, and the S&P 500 surged by 2.01 per cent.

The commodity section today at AEST: 3:10 PM saw the Australian dollar decrease by 0.14 per cent; it was trading at AUD 0.7272. The crude oil dipped by 0.50 per cent and was trading at USD 37.85 a barrel. The gold commodity dropped by 0.15 per cent; it was trading at USD 1,943.81.

The top-performing stocks during Thursday's trading session are:

  • Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX:CUV) was the top gainer today. It traded at AUD 21.510 and was up by 9.243 per cent. CUV today announced the progress of innovative DNA repair program.
  • Gold Road Resources Limited (ASX:GOR) remained at the second top position. It traded at AUD 1.620 and was up by 6.23 per cent.

The worst-performing stocks during Thursday's trading session are:

  • Resolute Mining Limited (ASX:RSG) traded at AUD 0.995 and was dipped by 6.132 per cent.
  • Monadelphous Group Limited (ASX:MND) traded at AUD 10.670, was down by 1.93 per cent.
