EarlyBirds, the Australian open innovation intelligence platform, recently partnered with Zespri, a global player in the kiwifruit industry. The new collaboration will help Zespri step closer to fulfilling its mission of sustainable operations with reduction in carbon emissions across its kiwifruit supply chain through EarlyBirds' unique outlook of innovation intelligence using OSINT data.

With a detailed understanding of prevailing resources and effective employment of available assets, EarlyBirds will provide Zespri access to strategic insights into the transformative potential of disruptive technologies for decarbonisation of kiwifruit supply chain.

With pioneering Ecosystem Maps provided by EarlyBirds, Zespri can have a holistic view of strengths, weaknesses, and collaborative prospects for multiple industry sectors and advanced technologies. Wholly owned by kiwifruit growers, Zespri is run and operated by a workforce of 850 professionals based in different parts worldwide to let consumers savour fresh and healthy Zespri Green, RubyRed™ and SunGold Kiwifruit. The company is steered by its vision of spreading the goodness of kiwifruit with the help of 2,800 growers in New Zealand and 1,500 growers offshore.

The company supplied around 183.5 million trays of kiwifruit to consumers in 2022/23 across 50+ markets globally. This brought in a global operating revenue of NZ$4.22 billion.

Zespri has committed to be using 100% reusable, recyclable, or compostable packaging by 2025. It has pledged to be carbon positive by 2035.

The collaboration with EarlyBirds will allow Zespri to adopt and engage with latest tech innovations, essential to boost growth and beat the growing competition.

EarlyBirds’ pioneering innovation intelligence platform will help Zespri choose and adopt transformative technologies via Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) and Open Innovation.
