Highlights
- Catalina has engaged drillers to commence follow-up exploration at the Laverton Gold Project next week.
- Previous aircore drilling returned significant gold intercepts, including 28m at 1.09g/t gold from 57m.
- High-grade rare earth element zones were intersected near the Mt Weld REE Mine, with assays exceeding 1% TREO.
Catalina Resources Limited (ASX:CTN) shares surged 25% today to trade at AUD 0.005 during midday trading hours, as enthusiasm builds around the company’s latest exploration push at its Laverton Gold Project in Western Australia’s mineral-rich Eastern Goldfields.
The rally followed news that Catalina has engaged drillers, with mobilisation to the Laverton Gold Project slated for next week. The upcoming drill campaign aims to build on the results that delineated a notable zone of gold mineralisation. The zone was identified during previous aircore drilling along the interpreted trend of the regionally significant Barnicoat Shear Zone.
Notable intercepts from earlier aircore drilling include:
- LVAC049: 28m @ 1.09g/t Au from 57m.
Additionally, anomalous rare earth element (REE) intersections were returned from aircore drilling in the vicinity of LVAC049. A high-grade REE intersection in hole LVAC037 over 10,000ppm TREO (1%) near the Mt Weld REE Mine intersected:
- LVAC0037: 9m @ 7,565ppm TREO from 47m, including: 4m @ 13,406ppm (1.34%) TREO from 49m.
The upcoming drilling program is designed to assess the continuity and scale of both gold and REE mineralisation along strike and at depth.
Laverton Gold Project
Catalina Resources completed aircore drilling at its Laverton Project (tenement E38/3697) in September 2024. The Laverton Project lies within the prolific Laverton Gold Province, an area renowned for its rich mineral endowment in Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields. This region is home to several world-class deposits of gold, nickel and REEs, including major operations such as Sunrise Dam, Wallaby, Granny Smith, and the Mt Weld REE deposit, one of the highest-grade REE deposits globally.
Catalina will provide additional updates once on-ground drilling activities officially begin.
