Life in a lock-down: 10 things to do

It has been weeks and the dull-boring life seems to choke out the vibrant spirit in you, making you so restless that chose to stand over the balcony for hours to simply get the breath of fresh air. The outside world with humdrum and commotions seems to become a fading memory as the empty streets now screech silence. Amidst the time when Covid-19 has unleashed terror over the planet. Over million have been affected by the disease, and the optimism and energy take its cue to leave. While you are struggling every single day to keep your lives moving, here are ten things you can do in the lock-down:

  1. Connect with the loved ones Online

In life, we often find ourselves conflicted over the choice to spend time with our closed ones or utilise them to get ahead professionally. Battling consistently between the two hard decisions, we are left with regrets for the things we cannot do. And many a times in our race for survival, we miss the opportunity to live. While coronavirus sounds all deadly and detrimental, it gives you a perfect time to balance both sides of the life’s preferences. You can use this time in the lock-down, to get associated with your family, closely understand your children, resolve the previous issues with your partner or chat with your parents.

  1. Help the Needy, and the Elderly Neighbours

Life gets tough when the majority of the services are shut down and all of a sudden, we need to change the way of our living. If you have thought that you are the one struggling badly, look around, and you would find so many who are way-worse hit by the pandemic- financially, physically or both. The world is fighting the battle against the medical emergency together with the health workers risking their lives and the governments leaving no stones unturned. In the times of crisis, even your little help and assistance may become someone’s hope. You can help the elderly by assisting them with the grocery and other necessary supplies in your neighbour. Similarly, based on your financial capabilities, you can provide some financial assistance as well.

  1. Learn some delicious recipe

All the leisure centres and dine-in services have been temporarily shut down due to the Covid-19. Amidst such circumstances, when you are all stuck in the house, you can try your hands-on cooking. What a better way to sate your food cravings and simultaneously help you end that boredom. Meanwhile, your family would love your presence if it brings so many delicious foods on the table.

  1. Limit your news Intake

We all know that the current state of the pandemic and the number of infections that have spread is not giving any positive signs. All those deaths and dreaded atmosphere that flashes on the screen is sufficient to turn you in a gloomy and stricken mood. Being aware is necessary, but overly immersing yourselves in the social media and news sources to dig out the hourly updates does not sound like a wise decision, especially if you are looking for the peace of mind.

  1. Get Organised

We know you have been complaining so long about the lack of time to get everything in order. Many a time, our house, wardrobe and even our body demands our specific attention. Well, it is the time when you can stop all those grumbling and get on with the organising part. You can clean your house, take care of your miniature garden, improve your backyard and arrange your stuff. Meanwhile, you can start some new exercise at home, or invest more time in body care. The simple steps will not only make the things look orderly but would also help in sorting the major life decisions.

  1. Take some online course you haven’t been able to pursue time since long

We often come across many online courses that can help us to improve professionally and personally. However, owing to the liabilities, other pressing issues and the time, of course, we are never able to materialise the plan. Now it seems like the right opportunity to take such class that you believe could provide a positive nudge to your career and personality (which you might need given the impending tough financial scenario)

  1. Work on Your Passion

Often what we do, does not resonate with what our heart desires. But the liabilities and circumstances often pressure us to take up things for practical life. Meanwhile, we forget to remain in touch with our passion, thereby curtailing the spirit of our very own soul. Maybe, it is the time when you can follow your passion. From painting or writing to trying on your hands on some exotic recipes, you can certainly live your given-up dreams. (However, for the ones whose passion lies in travelling and socialising, it is highly suggested to put a cuff on those overarching passion).

  1. Invest for long term

The past similar incidences like SARS, Spanish Flue, etc. recorded in the dark pages of the chronological records also highlight the silver lining. Holding onto such support, we can hopefully look if not for the coming week, then for the year ahead. Taking cues from the history and the lessons from the current state of affairs, one should seriously consider long-term investments. As the volatility is high with unpredictable sharp market fluctuations, the long-term investment would cushion against the unforeseen circumstances. Moreover, under the bear market, you can also realise effective price bargains.

  1. Plan for the future

Planning becomes exceptionally crucial when the uncertainty grips every individual and the road ahead is rocky. Amidst such time, setting your financial priorities, knowing your risk appetite and evaluating your financial situation is highly crucial. Based on the understanding of the parameters, one can plan the financial milestones and strategic activities. The planning may include varying investment plans such as investment in dividend stocks, portfolio diversification, mutual funds, etc.

  1. Take your time and make investment decisions wisely

The current time is exceptionally bouncy when the uncertainty grips every form of the market. Amidst such a situation, you should avoid rushing to the decisions. A slow and calculated move is the need of the hour. While the market downfall would instigate you to sell away your investments or maybe the low prices of the stocks may lure you into purchasing them. However, the decisions should not be merely made on the sudden movements but should involve in-depth fundamental analysis of both the stocks and your financial situation.

The present time is nothing like the usual routine and passing along the moments we come across a varying range of emotions from boredom to hope, desperation, stillness and frustration. Some make us fall on our knees, and the others teach us to dust off and move forward. While we go through this new and seemingly new scenario, we need to keep acting rightly, steer our path ahead and support the other failing, as unknowingly this situation today is forever going to be stamped on our memory.
