The Perth Scorchers have added some high-profile firepower to their BBL squad after snaring the services of former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis.

The Scorchers were left scrambling for a new import after it was revealed Laurie Evans had tested positive to a banned substance.

Du Plessis was overlooked in the inaugural BBL draft in August due to the fact he was only available for half the tournament.

But with options now few and far between given the season is just around the corner, the Scorchers turned to du Plessis to fill the void left by Evans.

The 38-year-old is expected to feature for the Scorchers in their first seven games, starting with the December 17 clash with the Sydney Sixers at Optus Stadium.

Du Plessis, who made 69 Test, 143 ODI and 50 T20 appearances for his country, will then play in the new South African domestic T20 league.

The South African star, who previously featured in the BBL for the Melbourne Renegades, is looking forward to joining the Scorchers.

"I think the first thing that jumps to mind is that Perth are four-time champions which is very impressive," du Plessis said.

"Any player who plays around the world wants to win competitions, so it's a great franchise to be part of.

"I'm also keen to come in and learn. I think it's important to learn from other people and organisations, and find out why they're successful.

"I'm also excited to share my experiences and the things I've learned and hopefully that can be a great combination."
