Compared with its competitors, Netflix is a content distributor and a creator of a few world-famous originals like Bloodline, Bojack, Daredevil, Fuller House, etc. Famous for its high-quality streaming, the OTT platform also provides offline downloads in the app, making it an unbeatable streaming platform.

However, other OTT platforms are also not lagging when it comes to compelling programs. Amazon Prime Video, Disney Hotstar, Voot, etc., are a few emerging players in the OTT market which are gaining a good level of popularity.

Let’s see how Netflix is different from the rest of the OTT platforms.

Pricing

While Netflix’s basic monthly pricing starts at US$9 with no ads, other streaming services – Peacock, HBO Max, Disney Plus and Apple TV Plus charge from US$5 to US$8. Here’s the tabular representation –

Like Prime Video, Netflix’s basic plan costs slightly more than Hulu’s ad-based plan of US$6 per month. Moreover, viewers can split their Netflix account between four people at US$4.50 per month, which adds a strong value to all the available original content, including a few Ultra HD content with zero commercials on any plan.

Features –

  • Netflix has more 4K content with a lot of its 4K movies and shows are available in HDR (high dynamic range).
  • Compared to other OTT platforms like Amazon Prime, the picture quality is even more straightforward. Annual membership of US$119 gives the users ad-free access to APV’s (Amazon Prime Video) catalogue and several shopping-related benefits. It lets users stream the highest-quality content, supported by any internet connection, including 4K Ultra HD with HDR and Dolby Atmos.
  • With Netflix, this feature varies with movies or TV shows. You can stream up to three titles at once with any Prime Video membership, but you can only stream the same title on two devices at a time.

Device Support-

Amazon Prime has the widest range of device platforms and browser compatibility, followed by other streaming services like Voot, Wowza, etc. At the same time, Netflix has the most device compatibility for any service.

Content –

Apart from thousands of licenced Hollywood movies, the platform has its original production, like The Umbrella Academy. Though Netflix has been slowly striping down some of its hit movies with the launch of Disney+, it is still ahead of the rest of the streaming services like Hulu, where users can watch their shows the day after they are aired.

Bottomline –

Hence, as content is the king, Netflix wins in the market with licenced and original content, despite being expensive for some users. However, users can choose their streaming services as per their wishes.
