Emirates airline seeks to entice flyers with Bitcoin payment facility

Emirates airline is planning to accept payments in Bitcoin soon, it has been reported on Friday. 

Emirates is the premier airline of the United Arab Emirates. It began operations with just two aircraft in 1985. It now has one of the world’s biggest fleets of Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s. 

In April, the company said it would launch NFTs and other exciting metaverse experiences for clients and employees. It hopes to reach out to more customers by allowing Bitcoin payments.

COO Adel Ahmed Al-Redha detailed the Emirates’ plans for blockchain technology and Bitcoin payments during an event at the Arabian Travel Market. He said the company plans to tap the blockchain technology to maintain aircraft records and track flight information.

Al-Redha added that the company might use the metaverse for training, sales, operations, and other activities to make the processes more interactive, Coindesk reported. He further said that Emirates would hire new staff for digital projects like crypto payments, metaverse, NFTs etc.

The UAE plans to make Dubai a major cryptocurrency and blockchain technology hub globally. Recently, crypto exchanges Kraken and FTX were allowed to start their services in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, respectively.

Crypto market rebounds after the slump 

The Emirates news came after the crypto market saw its worst slump over the past two days. In the past 24 hours to Friday afternoon, the market rebounded 4.62% to US$1.27 trillion. Bitcoin was up 3.78% to US$29,523.22.
