 European Market Performance Insights in Tuesday’s Session

Global Markets: Broader indexes in the United States were trading in green, with the S&P 500 index traded 1.34 points or 0.04% higher at 3,137.30, Dow Jones Industrial Average Index surged by 13.64 points and quoting at 27,923.24 and the technology benchmark index Nasdaq Composite traded higher at 8,630.58 and was up by 8.75 points or 0.10% against its previous day close (at the time of writing, before the U.S market close at ET 2:30 PM).Â

Global News: In Tuesday’s choppy market session, Wall Street broader indexes traded flat amid reports that the two big giants - United States and China were planning to postpone tariffs and hinted to extend the trade talks. On the trade related news, Apple shares nudged higher at 1 per cent. Needham downgraded the Netflix’s shares to “Underperform”, post which shares fall by around 3 per cent. During the session, Autozone Inc stock edged higher after the group (auto parts retailer) surpassed quarterly estimates for profits. Also, shares of Advance Auto Parts and O'Reilly Automotive expanded during the Tuesday’s market trading session.

S&P 500 (SPX)

Top Performers*:Â NortonLifeLock Inc, L3Harris Technologies Inc and Agilent Technologies Inc are top gainers and increased by 2.32%, 2.25% and 1.53% respectively.

Worst Performers*: Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings, McCormick & Company Inc, and Netflix Inc are the top three laggards and decreased by 2.43%, 2.17% and 1.87% respectively.

NASDAQ Composite (IXIC)

Top Performers*: Technical Communications Corp, VistaGen Therapeutics Inc Inc, and Ascena Retail Group Inc are top gainers and increased by 232.11%, 32.96% and 21.90% respectively.

Worst Performers*: Conn’s Inc, SCYNEXIS Inc and Francesca’s Holdings Corp are the top three laggards and decreased by 29.27%, 26.84% and 25.82% respectively.

Top Performing Sectors*: Healthcare (up 0.31%), Utilities (up 0.04%) and Financials (up 0.03%).

Worst Performing Sectors*: Consumer Cyclicals (down 0.06%), Consumer Non-Cyclicals (down 0.07%) and Industrials (down 0.19%).

Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI)

Top Performers*: Chevron Corp, Exxon Mobil Corp and Nike Inc are top gainers and increased by 0.43%, 0.34% and 0.31% respectively.

Worst Performers*: JP Morgan Chase & Co, Dow Inc, and 3M Co are the top three laggards and decreased by 0.80%, 0.60% and 0.58% respectively.

European Markets: The London’s broader equity benchmark index FTSE 100 traded at 20.14 points or 0.28% lower at 7,213.76, the FTSE 250 index snapped 141.55 points or 0.68% lower at 20,781.09, and the FTSE All-Share Index ended 14.21 points or 0.35% lower at 4,006.12 respectively. Another European equity benchmark index STOXX 600 ended at 405.34, down by 1.05 points or 0.26 per cent.

European News: Amid increasing expectations that the Conservatives will win a majority in Parliament during the general election on December 12, 2019, British currency edged higher for the second straight day. Opinion polls shows the PM Johnson-led Conservatives ahead of the opposition Labour party headed by Jeremy Corbyn, majority of opinion polls showing a lead than the 7 %, which political experts were saying that is adequate for getting a majority at the House of Commons.

Ted Baker Plc’s stock registered big swings during the day session, as it tumbled more than 14% to GBX 344.60 (before the market close) and registered an intraday high of GBX 358.0 and a low of GBX 257.60 during the day session. As it troubles deepened after the unanticipated exit of its Chief Executive.

London Stock Exchange (LSE)

Top Performers*: TULLOW OIL PLC (TLW), WOODFORD PATIENT CAPITAL TRUST PLC (WPCT) and COMPUTACENTER PLC (CCC) are top performers of the day and up by 11.79%, 6.77% and 5.28% respectively.

Worst Performers*: TED BAKER PLC (TED), PETRA DIAMONDS LD (PDL) and LAMPRELL PLC (LAM) are the top three laggards of the day and down by 12.66%, 9.82% and 9.09% respectively.

FTSE 100 Index

Performers*: GLAXOSMITHKLINE PLC (GSK), OCADO GROUP PLC (OCDO) and EVRAZ PLC (EVR) are the top three gainers in today’s session and up by 0.81%, 0.66% and 0.64% respectively.

Laggards*: ASHTEAD GROUP PLC (AHT), MORRISON(WM.) SUPERMARKETS PLC (MRW), BUNZL PLC (BNZL) are top laggards at the FTSE 100 index and down by 7.02%, 3.46% and 3.04% respectively.

Active by Volume*: LLOYDS BANKING GROUP PLC (LLOY), VODAFONE GROUP PLC (VOD), and GLENCORE PLC (GLEN).

Top Performing Sectors*: Healthcare (+0.26%).

Worst Performing Sectors*: Industrials (-1.32%), Telecommunications Services (-1.28%), and Technology (-1.06%).

Forex Rates*: GBP/USD and EUR/GBP were quoting at 1.3207 and 0.8402, respectively.

Bond Yields*: U.S 10-Year Treasuries yield was quoting at 1.836%, and the UK 10-Year Government Bond yield was trading at 0.805%, respectively.
