The UK’s leading trade association body British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) has stated that the beer sales in pubs in December would be extremely low due to tier restrictions on pubs caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
- BBPA study shows the beer sales in pubs to be as much as 90 per cent lower than normal in the month of December, a decline of 270 million pints.
- The industry body has further stated that usually, pubs sell nearly 300 million pints of beer during the month of December, including Christmas.
- BBPA’s survey suggested that extremely low sales in the month of December would result in £935 million in revenue hit for the brewing and pub industry.
- The trade association has been urging the government to cut down the tier restrictions on pubs or else provide the proper grant assistance so that they can survive during the winters.
- BBPA estimates as little as 30 million pints of beer to be sold in pubs in the month of December, including the festive periods, which is almost 10 per cent of the of sales during the month otherwise.
