What will be discussed in the emergency APEC meeting?

This virtually held meeting will see discussions with the Asia Pacific Economic Corporation group on how to deal with what can be called as the worst economic crisis after Second World War.

Amongst other essential matters that shall be discussed with several world leaders, Ardern will throw light on the increased Covax programme resources in order to facilitate the equal distribution of vaccine.

Discussions on how New Zealand can work with the WHO to identify future pandemic threats and be able to deal with them ahead of time, are to be held.

More relevant information on vaccines required

According to a research conducted by the Ministry of Health, 81% adults in the country are in favour of getting vaccinated, however, they are in search for more information on the same.

Though the numbers have witnessed an encouraging rise across a span of a year, people are looking for clearer proofs of the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine before getting it.

The fact remains, however, that novel strains like Delta shall require an even stronger vaccine resolution if the nation has to fight it. Misinformation is another major concern and correctional campaigns are functional in full swing for it.

Johnson and Johnson Vaccine’s approval

After Pfizer, it was notified last week that Johnson and Johnson’s vaccine has also received an approval from New Zealand medical regulators. The plan, however, remains to vaccinate 5 million people of the country mostly with the Pfizer vaccine, and then move on to Johnson and Johnson.

It is also noteworthy that the provisional approval has been received for the age group of 18+, and is pending a sign off from the cabinet, which is expected to occur next month.
