Summary

  • New South Wales health officials have requested visitors from New Zealand to follow guidelines.
  • Ever since a new case spotted in New Zealand, NSW is on alert.

Sydney is again on the tight spot as the Sydney Airport has increased its passenger screening protocols. Recently the state of New South Wales celebrated its eight-day without acquiring any new COVID-19 case. However, the testing is conducted in lower numbers than expected. About less than 9000 test results were investigated on Sunday.

NSW Health officials said in a statement that low testing numbers of coronavirus are a big concern. People are urged to get the tests done willingly even if they have very mild symptoms; it could be crucial to identify and isolate the person well in time.

Moreover, NSW health officials are issuing an alert for the people visiting New Zealand in recent times. A possible case of COVID-19 is found in New Zealand, breaking the flow of no case from November, coming from an international location. The person did 14 days of isolation in a facility in Auckland, following which she developed the virus's symptoms. Health Authorities in New Zealand are now examining the woman, who recently travelled across 28 locations from abroad.

After the news of COVID-19 case coming in, Sydney Airport tightened its screening processes as visitors from NZ were allowed to enter NSW without quarantine from many months now. Anyone landed in New South Wales from New Zealand from January 14 to January 24 has been asked to check their recent travel history to the affected venues and follow the required health advice.

Exactly a year ago, on 25 January 2020, Australia had recorded its first case of coronavirus. In a year, the country saw many highs and lows.
