Scorching heat and tropical humidity have taken a toll on Australian citizens, especially in Queensland. The gap between energy demand and supply has amplified the situation even further.

Residents in Queensland have been asked to limit their power usage following a near-record demand in heatwave conditions resulting in blackouts.

As temperatures crossed 40 degrees, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk cautioned on Tuesday that the power grid might struggle to meet the demand, likely to peak in the coming days, as the daily temperatures continue to rise in central and southeast Queensland.

Southeast Queensland saw a powerful storm uprooting trees, tumbling roofs and leaving 23,000 houses without power as unfavourable weather conditions hit the state.

Powerlink Chief Executive Paul Simshauser has also asked residents to reduce their energy consumption in a bid to drive down the demand on suppliers.
