Jack Ma: The face of China?

With the recent news coming on Mr Jack Ma's disappearance, the entire world is glued to the internet to know the e-commerce billionaire's whereabouts. Before Jack Ma went out of the public eye, he took a few crucial steps, such as stepping back from Alibaba and resigning from SoftBank's board of directors. 

Jack Ma is a celebrity in his own way. In China, people gather in thousands to listen Ma speak. When Alibaba threw a farewell party to Jack Ma, he charmed everyone with his public performance in Hangzhou. Mr Ma gave a dashing performance with his colleagues in an 80,000-seat stadium. It is believed that the billionaire is a natural entertainer. During the annual functions, Ma once performed like a Rockstar in front of 20,000 Alibaba employees. However, Jack Ma wasn't a born billionaire and entertainer. 

Ma grew up poor and failed to gain a proper education. He also faced rejections from many jobs including at KFC. In communist China, they had limited resources to live. 

Started his career as an English teacher, last year when the coronavirus pandemic suspended every activity globally, Mr Ma took the lead to support over 100 countries. He supplied mask and testing kits.

When Mr Ma met The US President Mr Donald Trump in 2017, it created quite a stir as he spoke publicly about the trade war. Mr Jack talked about the US and China trade war with a positive attitude stating that Trump is open-minded and will not take such decision. 

Till now, with his strong public image, he has successfully tried to keep his family out of the public eye. Jack is married to a teacher Zhang Ying, and they have two children. Apart from being a billionaire business genius, he is also an environmentalist. On multiple occasions, Ma has talked about his greatest passion for serving nature. During one of the incidents in his wife's family, Ma realised the illness is likely to be caused by pollution. Since then he started to take keen interest towards environmentalism. Jack Ma is a part of The Nature Conservancy as a board member. According to the media sources, Ma has been instrumental in preserving 27,000-acre nature reserves in China by providing much-needed funding.

Even though Ma is a very wealthy man, he prefers to keep his lifestyle simplistic. In his 56 years of life, he hasn't made a lot of flashy purchases. His hobbies are modest as well. As Jack Ma's friend said in the media, he hasn't changed much after being wealthy, and he is still a very old style person. Ma has a vineyard and a chateau in Bordeaux, France which he bought in 2016. Jack likes to read and play poker. He is also a writer and enjoys penning down kung fu fiction stories. To keep himself fit, Ma practices Tai Chi and meditates as well.

Different media houses have different views on Mr Ma’s disappearance.  Some claim he is arrested, whereas some believe that he is most likely avoiding any public appearances after a hate speech. Fact is still to be known, and his fans are eager for the update.
