Optus is set to welcome former NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian in a newly created role of Managing Director, Enterprise, Business and Institutional. As a part of its approach to do things differently and hiring experienced individuals in leadership roles, the telco major has approached Berejiklian, who has a well-known leadership experience.

Optus CEO ‘thrilled’ on Berejiklian’s joining

While announcing the appointment, Optus CEO Kelly Bayer Rosmarin said that Berejiklian will be a game-changer for the company. Rosmarin recognised the fact that Berejiklian is a proven leader having shown renowned strength, discipline, and composure in guiding NSW through Covid-19 pandemic. Berejiklian has also earned support and gratitude of the community while building and fostering a loyal and dedicated team.

Due to this, CEO Rosmarin is thrilled about Gladys Berejiklian’s ‘yes’ to join Optus team to help transform its approach to business customers. Berejiklian will be leading Optus’ Enterprise, Business and Institution market segments which is dominated by the telco.

 Berejiklian ‘excited and proud’ to join Optus

Berejiklian will join Optus on 28 February 2022. He recognises the company as an organisation impacting lives of millions of Australians each day. She is excited and proud in joining a team that puts customer service at the forefront.

She had also served as the Transport Minister and Treasurer and later became the NSW state Premier as a part of the coalition government. Prior to joining politics she served on senior executive roles at the Commonwealth Bank (ASX:CBA).

The former NSW premier quit politics in October 2021 after facing corruption charges. She was recently also slammed by the NSW Auditor-General for mishandling an AU$252 million grants programme.

Optus’ way forward

While Optus and its peer Telstra (ASX:TLS) are looking towards 5G expansion, Optus also seems to be focusing on developing customer relations, especially in the enterprise business.
