Australian states that reach 80% vaccination targets to reopen internationally

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has indicated that states that have vaccinated 80% of people above 16 years of age can resume international travel. Those vaccinated citizens would be able to move overseas after showing a QR code-based vaccination passport form.

Vaccination Statistics

As per a recent report released by the Australian government on 5 September 2021, a total of 20,855,353 vaccine doses had been administered as of 4 September 2021. Around 62.7% of the people above 16 years have had at least one dose. A total of 7,879,487 people are fully vaccinated (38.2% of the total population in the country).

Based on the statistics shared by the Australian Government, Department of Health, it seems that New South Wales is in the lead to travel abroad and welcome international travel. It appears that 80% of the population of the region might get fully vaccinated by November 2021.

After New South Wales, ACT and TAS are two regions where currently 68.90% and 62.64% of the population have been vaccinated with dose 1.

In QLD and WA, only 53.08% and 53.40% of the population are vaccinated with a single dose.

About Travel Restrictions

At present, the Australian borders are closed. Entry into the country is strictly controlled to combat the COVID-19 spread. Travelling is only allowed in case an individual is granted an exception. However, travel restrictions are subject to change depending upon COVID-19 situation.

As per the travel health advice, travel limitations for tour from India to Australia have resumed to global settings. Therefore, people looking for an exclusion to travel from India to Australia can request a travel exemption.

Exemption request to People escorting Australian Citizens

Travel exemption would be given to people accompanying Aussies or permanent resident minors to take a trip to Australia. This would guarantee the security as well as the welfare of the child or children during travel.

Temporary Visa Holder

Temporary visa holders can leave Australia at any time. However, they would generally be not allowed to return.

Exemption Categories

The below categories are automatically exempted from travel restriction.

  • An Australian citizen
  • Permanent resident of Australia
  • An immediate family member of the Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • An NZ citizen typically a resident in Australia
  • Diplomat certified to Australia & their family members
  • Person transiting the country for 72 hours
  • Airline and maritime crew members along with marine pilots
  • A person hired under the Government-approved Seasonal Worker Program or Pacific labour scheme
