Australian stars Danielle Scott and Laura Peel have won gold and silver respectively at the World Cup aerial skiing competition in Engadin, Switzerland.

In sunny conditions on Sunday, Scott and Peel made a great start by qualifying for the finals in first and third place.

The wind picked up later in the day, with Peel the only female athlete electing to use the spectacular triple back somersaults, advancing to the super-final in first place with 99.42 points, with Scott second (88.83).

In the super-final, Scott added an extra twist, executing a high-scoring double full-full (triple twisting double back somersault) to score 98.70 points and claim her third World Cup victory of the season and eighth of her career.

The 32-year-old success added to the world championship silver medal she won last week in a career-best season.

Peel finished with silver after scoring 94.65 on her high degree of difficulty lay-full-full, unfortunately losing marks on her landing, as she secured her second World Cup medal of the season.

Fanyu Kong of China took bronze with 92 points.

With one event remaining, Scott has increased her big lead in the World Cup standings with 382 points, 92 clear of Canada's Marion Thenault.

She only needs to finish in 22nd spot or better at the final event to win her first-ever World Cup Crystal Globe title as overall season champion. Peel is ranked third on 262 points.

"Really happy with my jumping today, I was doing some triples in training, but then the wind picked up, so I decided to maximise my points with doubles and keep it a little bit safer" Scott said.

"I will enjoy the moment now, and think about it (Crystal Globe) later, but I am honestly just so happy and it's not over till it's over, but I am excited for the last event."

The World Cup final will take on March 19 in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
